This was a trip taken to gather with a group of like-minded souls to discover what makes us thrive. I went with a friend who I know would be healed from this experience. Little did I know I would uncover things about myself and I, too, would get some healing. As women, we take on so much of life and wear so many hats that we just do what needs to be done and keep it moving. In doing that, we tend to neglect ourselves and bury feelings that don't just magically disappear. I have always been a strong woman who takes the necessary time to pamper myself, and I am afforded that luxury regularly because of my singleness. So, I thought I was a stress-free individual! However, I found that in all that strength of being there for so many others over the years, I needed to release all that and be renewed in my mind. Sometimes taking on others' problems is just as bad as having the problem yourself.
I thoroughly enjoyed rocking the Rockies with this awesome group of ladies that make up GirlTrek! There were so many random, but planned, moments of fun and fellowship. From cooking class, to double dutch aerobics, to yoga, to archery, to horseback riding, to hiking, to reiki, to sound baths, to self defense, to meditation, to level up challenge, to soul drumming, to frisbee golf, to sightseeing, to making new friends. You name it!!!! Whew, what an awesome time in the mountains protesting stress!
Getting there was as much fun as the events! The bus ride from the airport to the YMCA in the sky was beautiful and calming. There's literally just a different breath you take when you reach higher altitudes. The air if thinner, fresher, and sweeter. Once we exited the bus, we were greeted by a sea of blue (shirts) and black (women). I knew immediately we were here for so many reasons - de-stress, learn, love, heal, forgive, dance, forget, cry, laugh, dream, play, teach, listen, strengthen, release and empty ourselves. And I wasn't wrong, we did all that and left everything on that mountain! I can not wait to join the ladies in solidarity to do this again. If you're reading this and have not heard about #GirlTrek, please visit girltrek.com and join this wonderful movement. We are almost 1 million strong.
The mountainous scenery literally cleared the heart and mind at that high altitude.
